Background removal without uploading your photos

Most free background removers send your photos to a server, often keep them, and limit the resolution of free downloads. This remove background tool is different: an AI segmentation model is downloaded to your browser once and then runs on your device. Your photos are never uploaded, the output is full resolution, and there are no credits or watermarks.

Two AI models

Fast is the default because it downloads quickly and runs on almost any phone. Best is far more accurate on non-human subjects but needs a recent device with enough memory; the first run takes longer while it downloads, after which it is cached by your browser.

If the first result isn’t quite right, switch the model and press Run again with this model – there’s no need to add the photo again.

Output options

• Transparent PNG – the subject on a transparent background. Use it in designs, presentations, Canva, Photoshop and on websites.
• White background (JPG) – a clean, pure white background. Ideal for marketplace product listings, ID-style photos and catalogues.
• Custom colour – pick any Background colour, such as your brand colour or a soft grey for headshots.
• Sticker – white border – a transparent PNG with a white outline around the subject. Set Border (px) for a thinner or chunkier border. Great for messaging stickers and printed die-cut stickers.

Getting the cleanest cut-out

• Contrast helps. A subject that stands out from the background (dark coat against a pale wall) gives sharper edges.
• Good light. Even lighting without heavy shadows makes the edge clearer.
• Keep the subject whole. Cropped limbs or objects cut off at the frame edge are fine, but the model works best when the main subject is clearly visible.
• Hair and fur are the hardest. Use Best for pets and people with loose hair.
• Transparent objects like glasses and bottles may be partly removed, since they show the background through them.
• Shadows under products are usually removed. Add a soft shadow back in your design tool if you want one.

After removing the background

Crop the result with Crop Image, resize it with Resize Image, or compress it for the web with Compress Image (choose WebP to keep transparency). To turn a cut-out into a vector for cutting machines, try Image to SVG.

Privacy and offline use

After the model has downloaded, background removal works without an internet connection. Your photos stay in your browser tab and are discarded when you close it.
